The picture isn’t really about booze, or is it? It’s a flatbed truck used to haul the whisky from the distillery to the bars around Toronto. It sits on display at the Distillery.
Because many people who visit Niagara Falls also try to get a few days in Toronto, and because I often take people from Niagara Falls to Toronto for a guided day tour, I thought I would show you a little about this excellent spot to visit on the edge of downtown Toronto.
It is the actual site of the Gooderham and Worts Distillery. Founded in 1832, it was the largest distiller in the world by 1860. Can you imagine, over 2 million gallons of whisky, mostly for export.
There are numerous cafes, restaurants and shops housed within heritage buildings of the former Gooderham and Worts Distillery. The 13-acre (52,000 sq. m) district comprises more than 40 heritage buildings and 10 streets, and is the largest collection of Victorian era industrial architecture in North America.
Since 1990, the site has served as a location for over 800 film and television productions.
A great place to walk around, enjoy lunch at one of the many cafe’s, take pictures, and just plain have a good time.
