Nikola Tesla and George Westinghouse built the first hydro-electric power plant in Niagara Falls in 1895 and started the electrification of the world. Those are the first words on the Tesla Memorial Society website.

Nikola Tesla designed the first hydro-electric power plant in Niagara Falls. Adam’s Power Station (Power House No. 3), is all that remains of the old Niagara Falls Power Plant which was the first hydro-electric power plant in the world. Adam’s Station is registered as a National Landmark Historical Site and about eight million tourists a year visit the American side of Niagara Falls while some 20 million tourists a year visit the Canadian side.

Niagara Falls is not just one of the most beautiful places in the world, it is where the electrification of the world started. Niagara Falls are the final victory of Tesla’s Polyphase Alternating Current (AC) Electricity, which is today lighting the entire globe.

Tesla had 700 patented inventions including AC motors. You can find a statue of Tesla in Niagara Falls Ontario in Queen Victoria Park near the Falls themselves. Also, the statue which was a gift from Yugoslavia to the U.S. in 1976, can be found on Goat Island in Niagara Falls, New York.

Tesla’s “alternating current” was his final victory over Edison’s “direct current” plans for mass hydro-electricity.
